Trip planning
Documents and reservations for a trip to Italy
Organise documents for tourism in Italy, Schengen stays and reservations. Consult official sources and check the current phase of EES and ETIAS.
Planning a trip to Italy requires distinguishing three sets of documents: those for entry and stay, those for contracted services and those for attraction access. A valid passport does not reserve a museum; a hotel voucher does not replace evidence the border authority may request.
Brazilians on short tourist trips
For Brazilians with an ordinary passport on short tourist visits, the consular guidance consulted states visa exemption within the limit of 90 days in a 180-day period. This limit applies to the Schengen area as a whole: moving from another participating country to Italy does not start a new count.
Consult the official Italian guidance and the European Union page for travellers from non-EU countries. Nationality, purpose, duration and individual circumstances may change the applicable framework. Work, study and long stays should not be treated as tourism simply because they use the same flight route.
Passport validity and supporting evidence
For this category, European guidance requires a passport issued within the ten years before entry and valid for at least three months after the planned departure. Check the document dates before booking non-refundable items.
The border authority may request evidence of purpose, accommodation and funds for the stay. Organise reservations, your route and proof of return or onward travel consistent with the trip. Also check insurance and coverage conditions in official and contractual sources; a brief internet list does not replace assessment of your circumstances.
For minors, check their own document and any authorisations applicable to the route and group composition. If in doubt, consult the competent official channels before issuing travel services.
EES and ETIAS are not the same thing
EES is an entry and exit registration system. ETIAS is a travel authorisation for certain visa-exempt travellers. Do not confuse either with a visa or a purchase that guarantees admission at the border. Consult the official European portal for the phase in effect on your travel date; do not anticipate a requirement based solely on intermediaries’ advertising.
At the check on 4 October 2026, the European Commission stated that EES had been fully operational since 10 April 2026, with exceptions according to the traveller’s status. This does not determine the phase of ETIAS: check that authorisation separately on the official portal before travelling.
When consulted on 4 October 2026, the official pages of eu-LISA and the European Commission stated that ETIAS was not yet operational and was not accepting applications. This information records the notice found during that consultation; revalidate the phase in effect on the official portal for your travel date.
Cultural reservations and practical organisation
For every ticket, check the visitor, date, time, permitted access and change rules. Keep receipts accessible offline and leave a buffer between transport and visits. Reserving one area of a complex does not imply access to all the others.
Consular and documentary revalidation: 4 October 2026. Requirements may change; revalidate before purchase and again close to departure. This text guides the organisation of your checks without replacing the competent authority’s decision.
