Frequently asked questions about travel to Thailand

Find answers to your main questions before planning your trip to Thailand.

Which visa and arrival requirements apply to my passport?

Visa exemptions and permitted stays depend on your passport and travel purpose. The Royal Thai Embassy in Brasília states that Brazilian passport holders may visit for tourism without a visa for up to 90 days; do not apply this allowance to other passports. Check the rules for your nationality before travel. Non-Thai visitors generally need the free TDAC, submitted within the three-day window including the arrival date. Transit without passing immigration is exempt. See the Thai Immigration Bureau’s official TDAC guidance for applicable exceptions; the TDAC is not a visa.

Is a yellow fever vaccination certificate required?

The Royal Thai Embassy in Santiago’s guidance, updated on 2 January 2026, requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate from travellers aged 9 months or older arriving from listed risk countries, including Brazil, or transiting for more than 12 hours through an airport in such a country. This is not a requirement based solely on nationality. Before travel, confirm the requirements for your route, vaccination timing and any individual medical considerations with the authorities and a qualified health professional.

When is the best time to travel to Thailand?

In general, November to February brings milder temperatures and less rain in Bangkok and northern Thailand. For beaches, the best time varies by coast: Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi usually have more favourable conditions between November and April. As the climate varies between regions, plan according to the chosen cities and islands. Tourism Authority of Thailand.

How many days are ideal for discovering Thailand?

For a first trip, approximately 10 to 14 days allows you to combine Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai and a beach region. Longer itineraries can include different islands, natural parks or neighbouring countries at a more comfortable pace.

Where should I go on a first trip to Thailand?

Bangkok is the main gateway, bringing together temples, palaces, markets and food experiences. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai showcase northern landscapes and traditions, while Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi and Koh Samui are among the beach options. The ideal combination depends on the trip’s duration and time of year.

Which beach region should I choose in Thailand?

Phuket offers a wider variety of hotels, restaurants and excursions. Krabi combines beaches, rock formations and access to different islands, while Phi Phi is known for its seascapes. Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao lie in the Gulf of Thailand and may suit different times of year from the Andaman Sea islands.

Can a Thailand itinerary be customised?

Yes. The duration, cities and islands visited, hotel category, private services and pace can be adapted. Thailand can also be combined with Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian destinations.
