Visa and documents for travelling to India: guidance for Brazilians

Check the key points for organising a visa, passport and travel documents for India, with official sources and attention to your itinerary.

Choose the correct category before applying

Brazil appears on the list of nationalities eligible for the Indian e-Visa. This possibility does not mean visa exemption or automatic approval. The category must match the purpose of the trip, and individual circumstances may require a different procedure. Use official channels. Source: Government of India — e-Visa.

Validity, stay and entries

Check the validity of the authorisation, permitted length of stay and number of entries separately. A visa valid for a particular period does not necessarily authorise a continuous stay of the same duration. Read the conditions of the granted document before finalising the itinerary.

The e-Visa portal states in its general instructions that the passport must have at least six months’ validity at the time of application and two blank pages. Check the starting point for calculating validity and the requirements applicable to your circumstances and arrival date. Source: official e-Visa instructions.

An arrival form does not replace a visa

The official portal states that foreigners and OCI/eOCI holders must complete the e-Arrival Card for arrival information. The form can be submitted within the 72 hours before arrival and does not replace the visa. Also check current instructions on arrival declarations and whether your chosen point of entry accepts your visa type. Source: Government of India.

Yellow fever and the international certificate

The Indian Embassy in Brasília warns that travellers arriving from Brazil may need to present an international yellow fever vaccination certificate. Its documents page also sets out vaccination-related requirements and lead times. Treat this as a priority item to verify, not an optional detail. Embassy — general instructions; Embassy — documents.

Check rules on age, origin, transit and possible contraindications with the competent authorities. Health guidance should be individualised by a qualified professional; this guide does not recommend doses or decide medical exceptions.

Extensions, courses and special areas

If the trip includes Nepal and a return to India, check the possibility of re-entry. For courses, retreats or other activities, verify the immigration category without assuming that a programme’s tourist name determines the correct category.

Some protected or restricted areas require additional permits. A visa should not be interpreted as unrestricted access to every region. Source: Indian Embassy — areas requiring special permits.

Organise before departure

Check document names and numbers, keep the granted authorisation and have reservations and tickets accessible. Payment or an application receipt does not equal issuance. Also consider the rules of connecting countries and avoid entering your data on websites that merely imitate official channels.

The agency can help organise the checklist; the decision to grant authorisation and admit entry belongs to the competent authorities. Continue with Transport and How to build an itinerary.
